Things have gotten different.  We were planning to head to Atlanta for the rest of the year.   That's not the plan anymore.

The job at the High Museum back in Atlanta seems to have changed, by which I mean we don't have it.  Since that was the major impetus for us to return to Atlanta, we decided to take a little break, sit down here and turn the question over in our heads for a day or two.

The question: What Do We Do Now?

Let me just say, Gregg's parent's home is a great place to turn over things in your head. There's card games, civil conversation, regular visits from friends and family punctuated by small outings, and the odd movie if we're in the mood.  It's a peaceful place for us.  It didnt take long for a possibility to present itself.

When Gregg and I travel, we have to stop at RV parks for the night.  In recent years we'v been staying at the highly reliable and beautiful KOAs (Kampgrounds of America, those yellow & red signs you see on camping exits).  Few weeks  back we heard there were opportunities in something called the  Workamper Program, so we signed up.

Touring the KOA website for camps that need help,  several jobs are available near the NY Renfaire where we're playing the last weekend of August.   Jobs nearby are desirable, but another ad also caught our eye.  The Skowhegan, Maine KOA just lost a bunch of workampers, and really need some help.  No pay, but what they need is completely in our skill-set.  We are free for the whole length of the job, and the training would be invaluable.  Also completing the assignment would earn us status as "workamper stars", which gets us coupons to stay free at KOAs anywhere in America.  That's no joke for people like us, when we can blow the entire savings of one fair on a two week layover before the next one.

That isn't the end of it.  Turns out that KOA as a company wants mature, handy traveling people on a regular basis, especially outdoorsy types who can also run a computer, greet people pleasantly, park their campers, and perform light maintenance for part of the week.

And what they mostly want is people who don't stop moving.

Um...*really*?

I don't want to jump ahead of myself here, but we took the job in Maine. We're headed up there on Friday.  If this all works out, we may have a steady, cross-country job that saves us the enormous expenses of camping, is actually *fun*, and puts money in our pockets as well.

If this works out, in other words, it could change everything.  Really, really, everything.  We were starting to talk about off-the-road options, because we weren't making enough to stay on the road.  But remove the expenses of down-time camping, add reliable week-work...

...and we may just...

...just...

...have a life.
