I kept LiveJournal because I figured it would be good for when I wanted to really write about something that means a lot to me. Of course the more it means to me, the longer and more time consuming it is to read, and the less likely anyone will be interested, or comment even if they read it. What I write when I'm like that is often intense, and occasionally offensive (it's ok, I know it is.)

I keep FaceBook because a lot of times what's on my mind, while interesting, can be more briefly and cheerfully described than I am tempted to do on LJ, making it more entertaining, readable and easy to process not only for others, but sometimes also for me. I could have made an epic post about being rear-ended the other day: we're both fine, yadda yadda, sleazy drunk lady I can see moving to duck paying as early as she can with her vanity intact, thousands of dollars in damages, blah blah. But a short post on FB was enough. No one needed to hear the whole story. And while FaceBook is limited in words, the challenge of expressing a complex thought in a short space can be very rewarding. And, well, I kind of like knowing that my friend Justin just rolled in to the Arizona fair safe and sound, and feels ready to start another Fair year, and that Ron had a wonderful birthday that makes him grateful for his friends & family'; that Aaron, now a captain, is up to 2.5 miles swimming as of today; that Kimbelle is healing up nicely, and that Arleen's son just bogarted a plate of bacon and referred to them as 'cookies'. I like Chris saying, "Sooner or later, we're going to have to stop calling them 'novels'", and am glad Jim finally replaced his van with a used 2008 Ford E150.

The experience certainly wasn't personalized right out of the box, for sure. I read the directions on FaceBook regularly, and learned how to keep it from posting silly apps that get in the way of my friends telling me how they are. I kept clicking "don't like" on all the obnoxious ads until I only get ones about Buddhist meditation and authors and artists I like going on tour. I keep the ads out of choice, because that's what pays for FaceBook, and I don't mind them showing me things I might want to buy or participate in.

The process of keeping up with my friends' lives also keeps me from getting self-centered and broody, and wanting to post long annoying rants about nothing on LiveJournal.

Of course I'm not posting much these days, am I?

Possibly not the biggest loss ever to the literary world. Though i sould log on and see how friends are doing. If I want to write, perhaps I should write about something a little more meaningful, like the RESCU Foundation they told me (through FB) would be good if we could add something to. Basically, a large group of traveling fire jugglers, musicians, dancers and acrobats occasionally need to be treated for our lifestyle, and RESCU has covered literally hundreds of thousands of dollars of medical bills for us. That would be we, the hopelessly uninsured.

I'll be on the RESCU site if anyone wants me.:)
